Kathryn Bohn, MD
I first moved to Bloomington-Normal as a student at Illinois State University for both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. I loved this community and after medical school and residency, my husband and I moved here to start our practices and our family. I became very involved at the school our daughter attended by being room mother and Girl Scout leader for years. We were very involved with the PTA & band at our daughter’s school and chaperoned many of the band trips. During my 24 years as an Emergency Department Physician, I served on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Family Violence Council. I continue to be involved with Illinois State University as an Alumni and as a member of the Illinois State University Foundation Board. I have served on the Red Cross Board & continue to volunteer with them for their fundraising efforts. Interested in the sub-specialty of Phlebology (vein care), Dr. Bohn completed her Fellowship training under the direction of Dr. Stephen Rivard. After completing her advanced training, Dr. Bohn opened The VEIN Specialists, in Bloomington/Normal Illinois operated by physicians dedicated exclusively to the state-of the-art treatment of vein disease. The vein practice has given me more time to be involved in our local community. I continue to volunteer & enjoy attending many of the fund raising events in our community. I also love to travel, shop, attend movies & plays and cheer on the Illinois State University Redbirds at their sporting events.

Melody Fitzgerald, MS, PA-C
Physician Assistant, Critical Care Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine
Melody is a native of the Bloomington-Normal area and has spent most of her life there with short stints in Champaign-Urbana, Florida and Chicago. “I love that Bloomington-Normal is large enough to offer great career and educational opportunities, but still has a small-town feel,” she said. “This is a very tight-knit community with compassionate Midwestern values that I missed greatly while living elsewhere.”
Pursuing a career in medicine was a natural progression for Melody. “I was exposed to medicine at a very young age due to my mother’s career as a nurse. Watching her work instilled the same caregiver attitude in me. Medicine combined my desire to help people with my love of science – it became the perfect career choice for me.”
When it came time to finding a position, Melody wanted to work for OSF HealthCare due to its strong commitment of providing compassionate care to patients while being a leader in both the health field and the community.
“My hope for each patient is for them to leave a visit with me with a better understanding of their medical care – better than when they first walked through our doors,” Melody said. “I like to establish compassionate, deep relationships with my patients in order to create a comfortable environment to listen to them freely.”
When she’s not working, Melody enjoys spending time with friends and family, exercising, cooking and baking and reading.
